Glover Alcorn (Russ) Russell, Jr. – Partner

Mr. Russell has been practicing law for more than 25 years in Jackson, Mississippi having been admitted to the Mississippi Bar in 1981. Prior to the formation of his solo practice in 2003, Mr. Russell was a partner in several of the larger Jackson firms who employed over 200 attorneys and maintained offices throughout the Southeastern United States representing international, national and local clients. Combined with 30 years experience as a Certified Public Accountant, Mr. Russell has experience in all phases of business, tax, ERISA, litigation and estate planning matters. Mr. Russell has extensive experience in representing a wide variety of clients in ERISA and retirement benefits relating to the design, drafting and qualification of 401(k) plans, profit sharing plans, employee stock ownership plans, pensions, and VEBAs, as well as their termination. His experience also includes both trial and appellate courts relating to ERISA benefit claims and breaches of fiduciary duty by trustees and plan administrators as well as representing plans under audit by the IRS and the Department of Labor. Mr. Russell is experienced in individual and business matters and has represented and assisted clients with business planning, business formation and providing business and tax planning for individuals, corporations, limited liability companies, limited partnerships and general partnerships. He has extensive knowledge in transactions including the purchase and sale of businesses, mergers, non-competition and confidentiality agreements, shareholder disputes, non-profit and tax-exempt organizations and general contract and business matters.
Mr. Russell has an expertise in wills, trusts & estate planning, and probate & probate litigation. He has represented and assisted clients in the preparation of wills, trusts, irrevocable life insurance trusts, family limited partnerships, powers of attorneys and advanced health care directives, for both large and small estates. He has advised and counseled clients during the probate and administration of estates, inheritance and heirship determinations. Mr. Russell is also experienced in representing individuals and businesses in litigation matters relating to shareholder disputes, beneficiary and trustee disputes, disputes between beneficiaries and executors, breach of contract claims and ad valorem tax appeals. He is experienced in representing individual and business clients in federal and state civil tax matters.
Mr. Russell is a member of the American, Mississippi and Hinds County Bar Associations and their sections on Business, Litigation, Taxation, Estates and Trusts; a member of the Federal Bar Association and the Bar Association of the Fifth Federal Circuit; a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, Mississippi Society of Certified Public Accountants, and Central Chapter of Certified Public Accountants and participates in their sections on Taxation and Intellectual Properties; and is a member of the Jackson Chamber of Commerce, Mississippi Estate Planning Council and Association of Certified Fraud Examiners.
Mr. Russell received his B.B.A. degree from Delta State University in 1977; his Juris Doctor, cum laude, from the University of Mississippi School of Law in 1981 and his Master of Laws in Taxation from New York University in 1982. Mr. Russell has been a licensed and certified public accountant in Mississippi since 1979.
Mr. Russell is admitted to practice in all of the state courts of Mississippi, the Northern and Southern U.S. District Courts of Mississippi, Northern U.S. District Court of Indiana, Central U.S. Court of Illinois, Western U.S. District of Tennessee, the U.S. Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals, the U.S. Tax Court, and the United States Supreme Court.
Mr. Russell has also been involved in various civic activities serving as chairman of the board and treasurer of the Mississippi Chapter of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, Treasurer and Director of the Jackson Northside YMCA, Treasurer and Vestry Member for St. James Episcopal Church, President of Delta State University Alumni Association and Vice President and Director for the Delta State University Foundation.

Steven A. Kohnke – Associate

Mr. Kohnke was born in Quincy, Florida, and has lived in Mississippi since 1993. Upon completing his bachelor's degree in political science at Florida State University in 1986, he served in the United States Air Force from 1987 to 1992.
Mr. Kohnke entered graduate school after leaving the service receiving his master's degree in political science from the University of Southern Mississippi in 1995, and then his law degree from Mississippi College in 1998, where he graduated Magna Cum Laude. Mr. Kohnke then worked as a law clerk at the Mississippi Court of Appeals for the Honorable Leslie H. Southwick. Mr. Kohnke was admitted to practice in Mississippi in 2001, and has practiced throughout the state. He counts several public entities among his former clients.
Mr. Kohnke has experience in business law, corporate law litigation, ERISA litigation and trust litigation. He is admitted to practice in the U.S. District Court, Northern and Southern Districts of Mississippi and the U.S. Court of Appeals, Fifth Circuit along with all Mississippi state courts.
Mr. Kohnke is a member of the Hinds County Bar Association, and the Mississippi Bar Association where he serves on the Military Assistance Committee. He was on the Mississippi College Law Review from 1996 – 1998, and was a member of the Charles Clark American Inns of Court from 1997 – 1998.
